#001 - Building a Mobile App Studio
Building the best looking mobile apps and trying to earn a living doing it.
Wow… it’s been a minute. At the time of writing this my baby boy Vasant is 4 weeks old, and what a wonderful, sleepless whirlwind it has been. I’ve been wanting to spend as much time with him as possible, especially in his limited awake-and-not-crying windows. But I am ready to slowly get back into things, and I have been really excited to start writing this newsletter again.
One thing you might notice is that this newsletter has been moved to Substack. It just felt like a better home and offers a few benefits that I didn’t have before. Namely, you can now look up past issues and view them on the web, which is awesome!
The main thing I wanted to talk about was that I am rebranding this newsletter to be more about my journey as an indie dev building Supergooey and as a Mobile App Studio. Let’s chat about the rebrand, and what it means for this newsletter going forward.
💅🏽 Rebrand
This email newsletter started off as a way to share how to use Shaders with your mobile apps. And I would say it’s been a big success, as Supergooey eventually launched it’s first product, the Shaders for Compose course.
While I want to continue to explore and share some shader explorations, what I am really passionate about is building apps. I want Supergooey to be a world class mobile app studio that builds the funnest and best looking mobile apps and tools out there. And I want to share that journey with you all.
Now I know for some of you, that’s not what you signed up for, and if that’s true for you I don’t blame you for unsubscribing. But if you decide you wanna stay for the ride, lemme just give you a rundown of what you can expect!
🚀 Going Forward
This newsletter going forward will be a dev log of all the things I am working on for Supergooey. This can range from sharing insights into how the business is doing, apps that I am working on, cool libraries to explore, etc.
More concretely, the next thing I have in the pipeline is an app I’m building called Sundial ☀️. It’s a series of fun and helpful widgets that you will be able to customize and play around with, check it:
I’ll also continue to be sharing some UI prototypes, and code will be exclusively available to everyone here on the mailing list. You’ll also receive early access to any apps and tools, with significant discounts for paid ones.
If you vibe with this kinda thing, stay tuned I’ve got a lot of goodness coming your way. Check your inbox every Friday, follow me on Twitter, and I’ll catch nerds in the next one!
